Crestview Elementary is one of two schools in the North Kansas City School District that are in session all twelve months. Crestview is a place where a community of learners inspires relationships and purposeful innovative learning in a global society. Our Mission at Crestview is for our teachers, students, and parents to work together to help students do their personal best at school and in the community. Crestview is committed to doing “Whatever it Takes” for our students. Crestview Elementary is further committed to providing a learning environment where each student’s academic, physical, social, and emotional needs are met. This ensures each child the opportunity to develop to his or her fullest potential. This would not be possible without a highly knowledgeable and dedicated staff, supportive parents, and community partners willing to volunteer their time and resources. Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support (SW-PBS) is a framework for creating safe and orderly learning environments in schools, while improving the social-emotional outcomes for students. It is a proactive approach that relies on research based practices, including developing clear behavioral expectations, teaching these expectations, acknowledging appropriate behavior, consistently correcting inappropriate behavior, and using behavioral data to systematically solve problems.

Crestview Elementary was recognized for the MO SW-PBS Recognition Gold Award of Excellence for the 2018-2019 School Year. Criteria for this award is based on effective implementation of the essential components outlined by the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support. The criteria are intentionally set high. Each recognition level typically requires two to three years of intense work to achieve these criteria. These rigorous criteria and time requirements are necessary for schools to develop sustainable systems and practices, and to successfully implement these with staff and students. Indeed, many of the state’s most successful schools took a full year to prepare prior to implementing with students. The Gold award recognizes schools that implement with high quality at the universal (Tier 1), targeted (Tier 2) and intensive (Tier 3) levels. Great work Crestview Cheetahs!
